FAQ's
What is the most important question I should ask my baker/decorator?
You should ask everyone that you are purchasing food from; Are you licensed,
inspected, and insured?
A license is needed to legally operate a business.  To sell
food to the public, the food must be prepared in a commercial kitchen that is inspected
by the health department (home kitchens are NOT legal), and the business should be
insured for liability purposes.  It is important to make sure your baker is following these
practices for at least 2 reasons.  1.)  A reception venue has the right to deny your
cake's delivery if it was not made by a legal and inspected business (they are protecting
themselves from the liability), thus you could not have your cake at your reception.  2.)
If the health department catches an unlicensed baker, they will shut them down and
thus, you would not have your cake at your reception.  Don't take the chance, ask!

What is the base price for your cakes?
Wedding cake prices start at $3.00 per serving.  The cost varies depending on if you
want specialty flavors and what type of decorations you would like.  Our wedding sheet
cake prices start at $2.50 per serving.  These are double layer sheet cakes with a filling
to match your wedding cake.

Can you make the wedding cake and my friend or caterer make the sheet cakes
or groom's cake?
I'm sorry, but no.  It is against our policy to serve our cakes at an event where other
cakes will be served.  This is to protect our reputation.  We've worked hard to have a
reputation of having wonderfully moist and delicious cakes, made from the finest
ingredients, that are beautifully decorated.  I do not know the quality of the other cakes
there and cannot risk being mistaken as the creator of those cakes.  It is also a liability
issue.  I don't know the sanitary conditions in which the other cakes are made, and if,
God forbid, food poisoning should occur, I don't want to be associated with that.  (This
does not apply to dessert bars that include donuts, candy, pastries, pies, cookies, ice
cream, or cheesecakes.  It only applies to cake.)

Do you make fondant decorated cakes?
Yes, we design cakes that are covered in fondant, or we can design a cake that is iced
in buttercream that just uses fondant as a decoration such as bows or stripes.

What exactly is fondant?
Fondant is a sugar dough that is rolled out and placed over the iced cake for an
incredibly smooth finish.  Fondant can also be flavored with flavorings such as  almond,
cheesecake, rum, mint, etc.

Do you make cupcake wedding cakes?
Yes, we do make cupcake wedding cakes also.  We have a special stand on which they
are displayed that is often trimmed with a ribbon in a color that matches the wedding
colors.  Often a bride will request a small cake on the top level of the cupcake stand.
This tier is used for pictures in the ceremonial cutting of the cake.

What is a groom's cake and do you make them?
A groom's cake is traditionally a chocolate cake iced in chocolate buttercream.  It is
always smaller than the bridal cake, usually about 1/4 - 1/3  of the size.  Yes, groom's
cakes are available upon request.

What are my wedding cake display options?
Your cake can be separated by pillars, stacked, or cascading.  The most popular design
right now is stacked.  Sometimes, the top tier or two of the cake is separated by pillars.

How much is the stand rental fee?
There is no rental fee of basic pillars and plates.  There is a rental fee for plateau
bases, fountains, and any cascading or satellite systems.  The fee is $25.

Who decorates the cake table?
All fabric, lights, flowers, greenery, or anything else on or around the cake for
decorating purposes is the responsibility of the bride/groom, or their decorator and
florist.  Keep in mind that a white cake will blend into a white table cloth.  Ask your florist
to set greenery or flowers around the base to help your cake stand out.  Also a
cake
base will help add elegance to your cake.

What are some options for cake toppers?
Topper options to use are a traditional or custom bride and groom ornament, flowers,
bows,
monograms, or cake jewelry.  Please let me know which you choose, as this will
effect the cake.  If a cake topper other than bows or flowers are used, it is the
responsibility of the bride/groom to get it to the reception before the cake is set up, or
get it to me one month before the wedding.

Is it safe to place fresh flowers on a cake?
Not all flowers are safe to place on a cake.  Speak with your florist about safety
concerns.  Flowers that have be sprayed with pesticides should not be placed on your
cake.  Some flowers are toxic for people and their juices may leach into your cake and
possibly make people sick.  Your florist will know which flowers are toxic for people and
should not be placed on a cake.
Gumpaste flowers are a safe alternative to toxic
flowers.

If I want fresh flowers on my cake, who places them on?
Your florist generally is responsible for placing flowers on your cake.  After you have
settled on a cake design, let your florist know the size of the tiers and the design you
choose, so he/she will bring enough of your flowers.

Who supplies the ribbon that I want on my cake?
The bride is responsible for purchasing all non-edible items she wants to decorate her
cake.  Once we know the size and shape of your cakes, I will let you know the amount of
ribbon to purchase.  (It is best to avoid wired ribbon, sheer ribbon, and paper like
ribbon.)

Can you match my wedding colors?
We can match our cake to your colors.  Bringing in a color sample is the best way to get
it to match as closely as possible.

What shapes can my cake be?
We have a variety of styles to choose from for your wedding cake.  Cake shapes include
round, contoured, heart, square, petal, coma, octagon, or hexagon and in a variety of
sizes (cupcakes too).

Can I have multiple shapes in my design?
Yes, the tiers of your cake can be of various shapes at no additional charge.

Can I have different tiers of my cake different flavors?
Flavors for the filling, frosting, and cake can be mixed and matched to your
specifications.  It is suggested that you limit your cake flavors to just two.  It becomes
very hectic during the reception trying to serve a verity of flavors, and some guests
often want to try the different flavors, in which case you may end up short.  Their is also
an additional charge of just $15 per flavor after the second flavor.

Can you also make decorated sugar cookies for favors at my wedding?
Yes, we do decorated sugar cookie favors.  We have an assortment of shapes and
decorating designs to choose from.  (Please see our
Desserts page.)
